Karnataka gets new information commissioners
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot appointed retired Indian Police Services (IPS) officer Ashit Mohan Prasad to the post of State Chief Information Commissioner (SCIC) on Thursday. He also named seven new State Information Commissioners (SICs) namely Raman K, Harish Kumar, Rudranna Harthikote, Narayan G Channal, Rajashekara S, Badruddin K and Mamatha BR.
The information commissioners deal with Right To Information (RTI) applications. RTI activists have alleged that both the Union and State governments deliberately neglect to appoint members to the Information Commissions (ICs). There is a Central Information Commission (CIC) and State Information Commission (SIC) dealing with the Union and State governments respectively.
