Bengaluru: Shielding his HIV positive status and marrying a woman has landed an engineer in trouble after the wife has knocked on the doors of the Basavanagudi women’s police station demanding action.

The 25-year-old victim, who also got infected because of her husband, had reportedly continued to live with him. But the engineer allegedly threw her out of the house, after taking possession of all her jewellery and other items.

The 35-year-old engineer had married the victim, who works as an accountant in a private firm, in March, 2018. His strange behaviour during their honeymoon aroused her suspicion. He did not consummate the marriage citing severe stomach ache.

The next day after returning from the honeymoon, he is alleged to have started harassing her for dowry. He is also alleged to have taken monetary help from his father-in-law under the pretext of attending a computer course.

The victim chanced to find his medical report, stating that he was HIV positive, when he was not at home. When she got tested, she too was HIV positive.

“The victim in her complaint has alleged that her husband had not disclosed about his HIV status before the wedding. The woman has also stated that he has not disclosed how he got infected,” said a police officer.

Before approaching the police, the woman had approached the State Women’s Commission after which the couple are said to have been counselled. When there was no change in his behaviour and the harassment continued, the victim approached the police. The police are in the process of summoning the husband to seek his version on the accusations made against him by his wife. Further investigations are on.
