Busting myths about polycystic ovarian syndrome

This six-part Facebook live series will soon be available in other regional languages.

Bengaluru: A new series of Facebook live was launched on 17 January titled as “Nimma Aarogya, Nimma Savaalu” on the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCO’s). This series is part of Health for Her, a special initiative and app launched by the organization Artist for Her, with support from Divakars Service Trust, in association with DocSpacePlus.

Leading experts in the women healthcare sector, Dr. Hema Divakar, consultant ObGyn and medical director of Divakar Speciality Hospital and Dr. Sheetal Joshi, a clinical dietician and educator, are anchoring this six-episode series.

The series will be live on Facebook once in 15 days and they will address several questions to bust prevailing myths and misconceptions in the space of women’s health. The programme is aimed to raise awareness amidst the Kannada- speaking community all over the world about women healthcare. An estimated one in five Indian women suffers from PCOS.

Major questions that were addressed in this series, include relationship between PCOs and menstrual cycle, its impact on infertility, lifestyle and diet to be followed. It is a mission undertaken by The Federation of International Gynecologists’ and Obstetricians (FIGO). The series will soon be available in other Indian regional languages and will later be made available on YouTube as well.

Various topics of interest spanning menstrual health, maternal health, mental health and menopausal health will also be addressed. The live session is aimed at empowering women to take precautionary measures and promote wellness.

There was a good response from viewers as the programme was in Kannada. The topic for the upcoming live session on Jan 31 will focus on menstrual disorders.
