Bengaluru: A 33-year-old woman along with her son and his friends has been arrested for killing her husband and destroying the body by setting it on fire near Bannerghatta Biological Park.

It is said the victim, who reportedly had an illicit relationship with another woman, refused to register his property in the name of his son. The accused made the victim consume alcohol and later killed him.

The deceased has been identified as Channigarayappa, 52, hailing from Tumakuru. The police have identified the accused as Yashoda, 33, wife of the deceased, her son Nikhil alias Abhi, 22, Gurukiran, 22, Vishwas, 20, and Manjunath, 29.

The victim, a native of Pannenahalli in Koratagere taluk of Tumakuru district, had owned 21 guntas of agricultural land. He had married Yashoda around 20-years ago. Nikhil is the son of the couple.

She deserted her husband after knowing about his relationship with another woman and came to Bengaluru and stayed at a rented house in Garvebhavipalya near HSR Layout. Yashoda was working in a housekeeping agency and her son was doing fabrication work. The victim stayed with his paramour at his hometown.

“Yashoda found out that her husband along with his paramour was trying to sell his piece of plot. She asked her husband to register it in her son’s name, to which the latter refused. The woman then hatched a plot to eliminate her husband. As per the plan, Yashoda, Nikhil along with his friend, Manjunath went to the victim’s native and persuaded him to come to the city. Nikhil brought his father to the house in the city,” said an officer on part of investigations.

The wife and son again asked the victim for registering the property and Channigarayappa had blatantly refused. Nikhil with the help of his friends Gurukiran and Vishwas made his father consume alcohol as he was addicted to it. They later took him to an isolated place at Byatarayanadoddi on the Kaggalipura Road and made him consume alcohol again. When he was totally inebriated, Nikhil with the help of friends tied his hands and legs and killed him by stabbing 12 times on December 26, last year.

“In order to conceal the identity of the victim, the accused poured petrol on the body and set it on fire. A forest guard saw the body and alerted the police who filed a case of murder. The police then circulated the details of the victim to all other police stations. On the same day of the murder, the Hebbur police of Tumakuru distric police had registered a missing complaint of a 52-year-old man. The police summoned the complainant who identified the body. Based on the complainant’s version who had seen her husband being taken by his first wife and son, the police arrested the accused last week,” said a police officer. The victim along with his brother and paramour were working in a farm house at Thondagere. After the victim did not return home and his mobile was switched off, his paramour filed a complaint. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
