Bengaluru: Over 50 hostel students took ill on Thursday after eating upma in which a baby snakelet had fallen accidentally at Abbe Tumakuru village in Yadgir district. They are out of danger and only three students were given I.V. fluid.

It happened Thursday morning after the cook of Vishwaradhya Residential School served upma to the inmates. Soon, some students began vomiting. On checking the upma, the authorities found the dead snakelet in it. All 53 students were rushed to Yadgir Government Hospital and Mudnal Covid Hospital. The students recovered after a stomach wash.

District Health Officer Dr Hanumantha Reddy said that since the snakelet was boiled with vegetables, the poison level had come down. Yadgir SP C.B. Vedamurthy promised action against the cook
