Taking a leaf out of popular e-grocery firms, the state-owned Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (Hopcoms) has now firmed up plans to offer door delivery of their produce across the city and discounts for bulk purchase
Hopcoms had recently implemented its door delivery services on a pilot basis and now plans to cover the city. Customers need to install the ‘HOPCOMS Online’ app on their phones and then place an order for fruits and vegetables available in the catalogue.
Now the department has come up with a new initiative of offering a 10 per cent discount for purchases made for wedding ceremonies and other religious occasions. “We at Hopcoms operate on a ‘no-profit-noloss’ basis, so there has not been enough emphasis on business and ease of doing business. We are offering this discount to encourage the farmers as it will increase their market and save customer’s time by buying everything at one place. Also, by this new initiative, we will be able to offer good quality produce to the public,” says Hopcoms Managing Director Umesh S Mirji.
Hopcoms has roped in a private company for packaging the product and delivering it to the customers. However, the space for the packaging and a digital weighing scale will be provided by Hopcoms, and the packaging will be carried out under their supervision.
“While the cost of the products will be the same as at a Hopcoms shop, and earlier an additional delivery charge was paid by the customers,” senior official for Hopcoms told News Trail.
Hopcoms currently runs 276 plus retail outlets, out of which 238 are in the urban and rural districts of Bengaluru. It is said that every day over 80 plus tonnes of vegetables and fruits are supplied to the city through Hopcoms alone. With respect to quality control measures taken by the officials, Hopcoms is the most trusted brand in Bengaluru. Farmers sell their produce to Hopcoms and are paid in cash on the same day.
