No green signal for Tumakuru Rd flyover

A team of experts from Delhi, who carried out the load testing on Goraguntepalya flyover on the Tumakuru Road (NH4), have said that it must remain closed for a longer time.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant on Saturday said the experts have not issued the green signal for opening the elevated way for the public. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) may require some more time to conduct some more inspections before opening the bridge.
The flyover has been closed for repairs since December 25. One of the worst hit by this closure is Peenya Industrial Area, where the traffic movement has been badly hit.
“It has been nearly 50 days since the flyover has been closed. We are literally fed up with the horrible traffic. Many of our employees are finding it difficult to reach the workplace. Goods vehicles are delayed by nearly two hours. We are cursing the NHAI for poor handling of the situation,” said C Prakash, President, Peenya Industrial Association.
The load testing began on the bridge earlier this week providing some hope to the commuters. The frustration of vehicle users over the bumper-tobumper crawl on Tumakuru Road has even reached the Union minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, forcing the NHAI officials to speed up the work.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Chief of police has requested some more time from the commuters in order to ensure the flyover is safe. The flyover has been closed for repairs since December 25 following detection of ‘slippage of cables,’ between 102 and 103 pillars.
