Lalu sentenced to 5 years in jail in 5th fodder scam case
Ranchi/New Delhi, Feb. 21: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav was on Monday sentenced to five years in prison and slapped a fine of `60 lakh by a special CBI court in Ranchi in connection with the fifth fodder scam case involving embezzlement of over `139 crore by Doranda treasury.
The court in the Jharkhand capital pronounced the sentence against the ailing 73-year old former chief minister of Bihar and 39 others after virtually hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment in the case.
After his conviction in the case on February 15, Lalu was lodged in the Birsa Munda Central Jail and then shifted to state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, where doctors said on Monday that his condition is “serious but stable”. — PTI
