Bengaluru: In what seems to be a scene straight from the movies, a 21-year-old student was kidnapped and robbed by a gang of six muggers in AP Nagar police limits who however were arrested by the police in a swift operation.
Three of the accused are students and two are BPO employees. The accused had even made the victim’s father transfer money to the UPI account of a roadside tea vendor and then made him transfer the money to their account!
The victim was identified as Abhishek, who is doing his Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) course. Three of the accused are said to be his classmates. The victim’s father is an auto driver by profession and Abhishek who was engaged in a parttime job, had purchased a car with his earnings. He was driving to college in his car when three of the six accused waylaid and abducted him. The other three joined them en route.
The accused took the victim via Sunkadakatte, Nelamangala, Dabaspete and Devanahalli and somewhere between Nelamangala and Dabaspete, they stopped the car and forced the victim to sign on an e-stamp paper whihc said he had taken a Rs 10 lakh loan from the gang and would be returning it in three months. The accused forcibly took Rs 50,000 cash which the victim was carrying.
The gang then called the victim’s father on his phone and asked him to transfer Rs 1 lakh as their son has to give them Rs 10 lakh. The victim’s father after pledging his gold chain got Rs 45,000 and transferred the amount. Since the victim did not have a UPI mode of transaction on his mobile, the gang asked his father to transfer the money to the roadside tea vendor.
“The accused then sent back the victim in his car and threatened to kill him if he revealed the matter to the police. After reaching home, the victim along with his father approached the police and filed a complaint. ‘’The police have managed to recover Rs 80,000 from the accused along with the stamp paper and a gold chain,” said an officer who is part of the investigation. Three of the accused were identified as R Prajwal, Anil Kumar and Deepu. The AP Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
