600m road dug up at 9 places!

This could be a new record for the city. The Chinnappa Garden Link Road which was asphalted hardly a year ago, has now been dug up at nine locations on a 600 metre stretch making life miserable for motorists. As if this was not enough, the contractor has constructed nine road humps on the stretch! “I lodged a complaint with the BBMP in January about the road cutting. They have not bothered to visit the spot,’’ said Aijaj Ahmed, a resident.

It may not be an exaggeration to state that Chinnappa Garden Link Road is the most neglected road in the city. The road was asphalted hardly a year ago, but it was later subjected to numerous cuttings and diggings by one agency or the other.

The 600 metres stretch has been dug up at nine locations thus making the lives of motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, miserable. As if it is not enough, the contractor was generous enough to construct nine road humps on this stretch. Neither common sense nor intelligence was used while constructing these road humps, and now it poses a danger for the motorists.

“I have lodged a complaint with the BBMP authorities in January about cutting of the road. They have been content with mere escalation of the matter and never bothered to visit the location and fix the problems,” said Aijaj Ahmed, a resident.

He blamed the BBMP authorities for allowing road cutting by private and government agencies. “The BBMP authorities have to ensure the restoration of the road that was either cut or dug up for one or the other purpose. I demand the BBMP authorities to restore the road as early as possible,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the BBMP authorities for allowing indiscriminate cutting of the road, Vasudeva Murthy, a senior citizen, has said that it has become tough for him to commute on this stretch. “The dug up portions on this stretch are making our lives miserable. As if it is not enough, the BBMP authorities have allowed the construction of unscientific humps on this stretch. It is not safe for senior citizens to ride a two-wheeler on this stretch,” said Vasudeva Murthy.

It is not clear what has made the BBMP engineer or local elected representative allow such a number of unscientific humps on this 600-metre long road. “Though the road was asphalted more than 10 months ago, it is not easy for motorists to commute due to the unscientific humps. I am not against construction of road humps as per the specifications approved by the authorities,” said a resident pleading anonymity.

Meanwhile, BBMP engineer Mohammed Javed feigned ignorance when informed about the condition of the road. “I will visit the spot as early as possible. No one has informed me about the condition of the road. I will fix the problem soon,” he said.
