Gang posing as CCB cops abducts, robs cashier

Bengaluru: Close on the heels of the robbery of a railway department employee by two accused in the guise of police officers, a similar tactic was used by a gang of four to rob a cashier of a bar on the city outskirts.
The victim has been identified as GC Shiva Kumar, 32, a resident of Bidadi, and an employee of Siddegowda bar and restaurant on the Bengaluru-Bidadi Road. The incident happened a few days ago, while he was returning home on his bike after business hours. He was also carrying the day’s collection of Rs 80,000.
Around 10.45 pm, the accused came in a multi-purpose vehicle and overtook the victim’s bike and told him to stop. The four accused, aged between 20 and 30 years, got down from the vehicle and claimed that they were policemen attached to the Central Crime Branch. One of them was carrying a walkie-talkie.
When Kumar said there was no case against him, the gang told him to discuss the issue at Bidadi police station. The accused then attacked him and pulled him into their vehicle.
“They bundled me inside their vehicle and kept driving. When I tried to scream for help, they were beating me continuously. They took the money which was with me. They took me for about one kilometre and pushed me out of the vehicle on the Nalligudde Lake. It was pitch dark, but I managed to reach the main road. I then saw a vehicle which had Karnataka Government logo and sought help. The driver was kind enough to drop me till the nearby jurisdictional Byadarahalli police station. After recording my statement, the Byadarahalli police took me to Bidadi police, the area where the robbery happened,” Kumar told NT.
Later the victim was taken to a government hospital where he was provided treatment and later sent home. The police suspect the accused must have observed the movements of the victim before robbing him.
“We suspect that the same gang is involved in the robberies of the railway department employee and the cashier. We have obtained CCTV footage of both the case and are collecting clues of the gang,” said an officer on part of investigations.
A case of causing hurt in committing robbery (IPC 394) has been registered.
