Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a popular jewellery store at JP Nagar in the city was looted of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.5 crore.
Unidentified miscreants broke into Priyadarshini Jewellers located on the ground floor of an apartment complex in JP Nagar and made away with the booty, police said on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigation by the jurisdictional police revealed that two months ago, the third floor of the apartment had been rented out to a group of men. The exact number of individuals has not been ascertained.
According to the owner of the building, the tenants had produced Aadhaar cards and other documents bearing fake names and Delhi-based addresses while renting the flat.
For more than a month, the accused have observed the activities in the jewellery store and hatched a plan to rob it in a cinematic style. Police said that the accused used various tools and machinery in order to drill through the wall of the shop and cut through the metal nets of the store in the process.
On the night of April 17, the accused carried out their nefarious activity as per plan and robbed 5 kg of gold valuables from the store. The following day, workers and the owner of the store were shocked to find all the jewellery missing from the store.
A complaint was filed and during the investigation, it was found that the tenants of the third floor of the building had evacuated the place. When the police verified the identification papers provided to the owner, they were found to be fake.
Police are now scanning CCTV footage of the area to identify the culprits. Further investigation on the case is underway, police said.
