Bengaluru: Around 250 volunteers and residents have joined hands with Save Green to plant 500 saplings at vacant places in and around Gottigere on Friday. It took around four hours for them to complete planting saplings.
Save Green is a non-profit organization working on various social causes such as tree plantation, maintenance, park/lake development.
“We appreciate everyone for their contribution and it was a great result. In some areas, Save Green has done cleanup and road leveling work which has yielded good results,” said Hemant K, president, Save Green, adding that arrangements have been made to water the saplings twice a day.
Save Green volunteers said that they had to struggle a lot to level the ground and clear debris to facilitate planting of saplings. “After selecting the place for planting saplings, we worked hard on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to level the 300-metre stretch at Gottigere. We used an earth moving machine to level the ground,” said Senthil M, Secretary, Save Green.
Save Green is trying to focus on bulk Tree Plantation to recover the city’s greenery and wants the public to share information about the areas that need bulk tree plantation.
The volunteers of Save Green planted saplings at vacant places in and around KR Puram, White Field, Marathahalli, Indiranagar.
The volunteers have also organized programmes to make trees free from nails and banners in and around Indiranagar, Jeevan Bima Nagar and other areas. Monish P, who has associated with Save Green, says that participating in events organized by Save Green gives him immense pleasure.
The volunteers are focusing on bulk tree plantation at lakes in and around Bengaluru. “We have to conduct a survey at three lakes at Uttarahalli in south Bengaluru. We will plant saplings after availing permission from the BBMP Lakes Department,” said Thejaswini K., vice president, Save Green.
