Bengaluru: Seven stray dogs have been allegedly poisoned in Rayasandra near Parappana Agrahara. The dogs had been reportedly barking at night near an apartment complex, which is suspected to be the reason for trying to get rid of them.
It has been said that a group of animal lovers used to feed the dogs. They noticed some of the dogs were sick on Wednesday. In a social media video, one of the dogs is seen crying in agony.
Three of the dogs were found dead, three others succumbed on Friday while undergoing treatment and one died on Saturday.
Pramod, an animal welfare volunteer from Electronic City told News Trail that the dogs had been vaccinated and neutered by the feeders, who also have the related documents with them. “The dogs lived in an open space near the apartment complex, which was otherwise used to dump garbage by some residents,” he said.
An FIR was filed at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station on Saturday. The police were reportedly very co-operative but the informers felt that such a case was new to them. The police were able to handle the cruelty case with the guidance of the Bengaluru Urban District Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.
The police examined the spot on Saturday, while a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Monday.
This is the second major incident of animal cruelty in Bengaluru during the past week. On April 19, CCTV footage revealed that a dog was run over by an SUV within Jnanabharathi Police Station limits. An FIR was lodged against the driver of the car.
