Robber gang posing as cops nabbed
A gang of four robbers, who were robbing people in the guise of police officials, have been arrested by the Ramanagar police.
The accused used to pose as policemen, carry walkie talkies and travel in a Toyota Innova to target lone travellers. They used to threaten the victims by saying they have a police case and frisk them.
Under the pretext of checking, the accused used to bundle the victims into their car, rob them and then dump them at deserted places.
Two people, a 31-year-old employee of Indian Railways and a 32-year-old bar cashier, were robbed by the accused in the last fortnight. The incidents had happened on the Magadi main road and near Bidadi.
News Trail had earlier reported both the cases. The accused are professional robbers who have committed robberies in Ashoknagar and other parts of the city.
The robbers have been identified as G Rajesh, 33, a resident of Yeshwanthapura, P.T. Chethan, 35, of Arishinakuntte, R Puneeth Kumar alias Insect, 35, of Srinagar and S Srinivas, 24, of Chamarajpet. The police have recovered the Innova, two walkie-talkies that were being used by a security guard, Rs 3000 in cash, and number plates have been recovered from the accused.

Bengaluru: In November, 2020, the same gang had been involved in a robbery case in Kudur police limits, theft and cheating in Ashoknagar police limits and another case in Bidadi police station limits. The police are yet to recover a few more vehicles from the accused. It may be recalled that Ranjan Kumar Paswan, a railway employees, was abducted and robbed by the accused. The victim was returning to his quarters on the Magadi Main Road on his bike after dropping his family members at the Yeshwanthapura railway station.
In another robbery case GC Shiva Kumar, 32, a resident of Bidadi, a cashier in a bar and restaurant on the Bengaluru-Bidadi Road was robbed by the same gang. The victim after the business closed the bar at around 10.30 pm and was returning home with the day’s collection of Rs 80,000.
