It’s adventure sports time for Khelo India participants

Bengaluru: General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure (GETHNAA) is organising adventure sports for the participants of Khelo India, the all-India inter-university sport competition that is currently underway in Bengaluru.

Kar nataka Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports K C Narayana Gowda visited the Jakkur Airfield on Wednesday where he interacted with a batch of students from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, who tried their hands in parasailing. For most of them, it was a first-time experience.

Sourabh Goriya, a BA student and a rifle-shooter, expressed his satisfaction with the arrangements and organisation of the games as well as the city’s weather.

Students said they are also looking forward to trying mountain biking, also offered by GETHNAA.

The ‘joy-ride’ is being offered in batches every day till the conclusion of the games. GETHNAA officials told News Trail that about 50 students will be able to take the ride each day.

The minister also inaugurated the Khelo India 2021 plane which bears the logo of the games under its wings. He also took a ride on the Cessna SkyHawk plane. According to officials, the SkyHawk is among the planes that will be flown at a low altitude close to the games’ venue as a branding and publicity initiative.

GETHNAA is managed by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka. The instructors said that members of the public will also be able to parasail on weekends by registering on the website.
