National meet on microbial biotech held

Bengaluru: The Department of Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food Technology conducted a national conference on ‘Advances in microbial biotechnology: Current trends and future prospects’ at Venkatagiri Gowda Auditorium, Bangalore University, Jnana Bharathi Campus on Thursday.

The event drew representatives from across the nation and many illustrious delegates took part in the event which was presided over by Prof. C. Srinivas, Dept. Chairman, Bangalore University. The chief guest at the inaugural function was Prof. S.R. Niranjana, former vicechancellor, Gulbarga University. The guests of honour were Prof. A.M. Deshmukh, president of Microbiologist’s Society, India (MSI) and Dr. Appa Rao Podile, former vice- chancellor, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.

The presidential address was delivered by Prof. K. R. Venugopal, Vice- chancellor, Bangalore University. The event was organized by Dr. D.C. Mohana and Dr. S.T. Girisha. Prof. S.R. Niranjana delivered his perspective on the current state of microbial biotechnology and its applications.
