BU celebrates World Dance Day

Bengaluru: The Department of Performing Arts of the Bangalore University celebrated the World Dance Day on Tuesday.

Internationally acclaimed danseuse Dr Veena Murthy Vijay was the chief guest at the function. She hailed the Department of Performing Arts for providing yeoman service to the young and aspiring artists in building a career and livelihood by mentoring them. “It is more of a Gurukula iof yesteryears,” she observed.

Registrar Professor Kotreshi, who presided over the function, said that Indian music soothes the soul. “It is the most fascinating aspect inherent in art. “Allama Prabhu, a saint of Karnataka, was a dancer and this aspect needs to be propagated,” he said.

Students performed Bharatanatyam, Mohinyattam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Kamsale of Karnataka, Thiruvathira of Kerala and Lavani of Maharashtra.
