Bescom receiving complaints via WhatsApp and resolving them, really?

NT Correspondent

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) seems to have woken up from its slumber after coming under heavy criticism for failing to maintain transformers in the city, leading to fatal accidents.
In the first week following the launch of BESCOM’s WhatsApp helpline, over 700 complaints were reportedly received.

The power supply company claimed that it had resolved over 600 complaints as of Wednesday. BESCOM officials have been reported saying that the helpline has made it easy for them to resolve issues as the complaints were accompanied by pictures and videos.
According to an official, most of these complaints were of trees and buildings coming into contact with power lines.

Trees need to be trimmed judiciously from time to time to avoid mishaps.
However, BESCOM has been cutting off branches haphazardly in many areas of the city. Also, regulation of construction must be a systemic and regular exercise in order to avoid accidents.
Bescom seems to have depended solely on complaints from citizens to even carry out its regular maintenance exercises.
