Bengaluru: The city police traced and rescued an 11-year-old boy who was kidnapped within hours after the complaint was lodged by his father.
The accused was identified as Gaurav Singh, a native of Nepal, who had been staying in the city working as a security guard.
The boy, a student in the fifth class, reportedly went missing from his residence near Horamavu on Tuesday.
It was later revealed that the boy’s father, Subhash, is a Bengaluru Mahanagara Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus driver.
Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that an unidentified woman allegedly took the boy along with her while he was playing outside his house around 5:30 pm.
The parents of the boy were worried when they couldn’t find him anywhere.
“As the parents started searching for the boy at all possible places, the boy’s mother received a call from the accused allegedly demanding Rs 50 lakh to release the boy. The accused threatened her not to approach the cops,” police said.
However, the parents approached the Hennur police and filed a complaint regarding the incident.
Later, the mother of the boy told police that a woman residing in the neighbourhood had allegedly borrowed her mobile phone. It was suspected that the accused may have procured the contact number at that time.
Acting swiftly, the cops initially tracked the phone number from which the call was made to the parents. It was revealed the call was made from a place near Jigani.
On further probe, the police were informed that the woman took the boy in an auto-rickshaw.
Connecting the dots, the police surrounded a farmhouse in Jigani, nabbing the accused and rescuing the boy in the process around 2 am.
The accused is currently being interrogated and a team of police have launched a manhunt for the woman, police said.
