Wheelie wonkers, beware... cops are chasing you all

Bengaluru:

In an effort to crack down on drag racers and ‘wheelie wonkers’ in the city, Bengaluru traffic cops are carrying out special drives across all police station limits. In a latest move, the officials have requested the public to alert the BTP if they find miscreants performing stunts on the roads.

The police claim that earlier the stunt maniacs would be seen on the flyovers and deserted roads especially around the NICE Road at night during weekends. But now the trend has been catching up in the day time and even on weekdays.

“Recently, video footage of several youths dangerously performing wheelies on the old Airport Road has come to the notice of the BTP,” a senior police official told News Trail. “The generation is smart, but they should understand that by doing such dangerous acts, they are putting their lives at risk as well as posing a threat to the other motorists on the road,” the official said.

He said that many such bikers have been earlier caught while making video clips of the stunts to share it on their social media handles. The BTP will continue cracking down on such miscreants, the official added.

A few days ago, Bengaluru Joint Commissioner, Traffic, BR Ravikanthe Gowda had urged the people in Bengaluru to use the ‘Public-Eye’ app to capture traffic violations and notify it to the BTP in real time. “The identity of the senders will be kept confidential,” he had said.
