The office of the Prime Minister has sought details from Karnataka State Contractors’ Association President Kempanna who had alleged 40 per cent commission in contract allotment in various government departments.

According to sources, Kempanna had dropped a bombshell a few months ago claiming that nothing moves in government department without 40 per cent commission. This had provided enough fodder to the opposition Congress Party to attack the ruling BJP .

The issue had also figured in the recently concluded joint session of the state Legislature with the Congress demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for his failure to check corruption in government departments. The Congress leaders had also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not acting on the memorandum submitted by the Contractors’ Association.

Recently, the CM had invited Kempanna and other association office-bearers to his office and had held a discussion with them seeking details of their allegations. Subsequently, Kempanna had stopped making allegations against the BJP government claiming that Bommai had promised to address the issue. Now, the PMO has asked Kempanna to furnish details regarding the charges so that it can take up the matter with the Bommai government.
