Students of BMS School of Architecture (BMSCA) exhibited their documentation of Malleswaram on Saturday in ‘Malleswaram Parichaya’ – a day-long exhibition. The event also included heritage walks, temple trail and food trail.

Minister for Higher Education and Malleswaram MLA C N Ashwath Narayan and Dr Mamatha P Raj, Professor and Director of BMS College of Architecture, inaugurated the event.

Yashaswini Sharma, Architect and Guest Faculty of BMSCA, who is in-charge of the HVN Bungalow’s restoration project, said: “The students undertook an extensive study of Malleswaram with a focus on heritage and infrastructure. They also did a detailed morphological study of the area,” she said.

The students identified several urban issues like water logging and came up with plans for better utilisation of conservancy lanes and other unused spaces. Sustainable solutions for Malleswaram market and water bodies, such as Sankey Tank, were also proposed. Several residents of Malleswaram visited the venue and appreciated the students.

HVN Bungalow, the grand heritage building on the13th Cross Road, was the venue of the exhibition. The building was originally the residence of H V Nanjundaiah, who was the acting Dewan of Mysore. He later donated the bungalow for a school to be built.
