High-tech carjacker who stole 10 cars in police net

HSR Layout police arrested a 32-year old person allegedly involved in stealing cars using an auto-key programming device. The police identified the accused as Arun Kumar, a native of Mulbagal, Kolar.

New cars are equipped with the latest security tech-things like remote locks and even engine immobilizers. But, with the advanced technology, it seems it is getting easier to steal vehicles. It was revealed that Kumar is a commerce graduate and had learnt the process of developing the device from an online video sharing site.

The police said that the accused learnt about an app which can pick-up the signal code emitted from a remote key. Following a vehicle theft complaint near HSR Layout, a probe was launched by the ACP of Madiwala Sub-division, Sudhir M Hegde, under the directions of the DCP, South East, CK Baba. On June 9 around 5 am, a patrolling police near HSR Layout sector-5, were alerted regarding a person stealing a bike.

The police rushed to the spot and caught the accused and recovered the stolen bike. Based on the information obtained from the accused, the police recovered 10 cars and 1 two-wheeler, worth Rs 70 lakh, along with his device, police said. The police said the accused had sold the stolen vehicles to people belonging to different locations in Tamil Nadu.
