I t is not easy for the girl students from rural areas to pursue their education by residing at a government or private hostel without adequate security. As per the recent report, students at Devaraj Urs post-matric girls hostel in Nelamangala town have been living in fear amid harassment and eve-teasing by a bunch of miscreants outside the hostel. “For the past several weeks, a group of boys has been creating a nuisance by disturbing the female students in the hotel. The trouble begins almost every evening with the loud bangs on the windows and doors of the room. Sometimes they would point laser beams inside the rooms,” a hostel inmate told News Trail. One of the hostel authorities, Shantabai, claimed that she had already reported the issue to her authorities. “A government building that was being constructed near the hostel has been left incomplete for several weeks which has now become a den for these miscreants. We had even alerted the authorities and the police about it earlier,” she said. It is worth noting that the Devaraj Urs hostel for girls is located at a sparsely populated area in Jayanagara of Nelamangala town on the outskirts of Bengaluru city. “Last night too there were several loud bangs on the windows of the room and we could not sleep out of fear,” added another student. However the jurisdictional police reached the spot on Tuesday morning to assess the situation. A police officer told News Trail that a complaint has been taken up regarding the incident and they will beef up security near the hostel
