Clamps are back to arrest your vehicles for illegal parking

Bengaluru: Concerned with the rising complaints of illegally parked vehicles in the city, the Bengaluru traffic police (BTP) have resorted to clamping the wheels of the vehicles left at "no parking zones." After a huge outcry from the public, the state government had temporarily suspended the towing of vehicles during February. No doubt that the move was a big relief to law-abiding citizens. But on the other hand, there is also a surge in parking violation cases in the city, as per BTP. Speaking to News Trail, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bengaluru West, Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said that it is necessary to curb parking problems in the city where the number of vehicles is increasing day by day. The illegal parking has been causing inconvenience to motorists on busy roads and near junctions. Hence, the department has decided to lock the tyres, he said. "Soon we will come up with an effective solution to the parking issue. Till then, we have decided to lock the wheels of the vehicles that are parked in no parking zones. The owners can contact the cops through the phone number provided on every clamp. Once the fine is paid, the clamp will be removed by the cops from the nearest traffic police station," Jain said. An official from the Traffic Management Center said that a fine of Rs 500 will be levied for the first offence and Rs 1000 for repeated parking violations. The driver also has to produce valid documents for the vehicle to be released, the official said.
