State Congress on Saturday joined the growing chorus against a government school building in Chikpet being put up for sale. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) DK Shivakumar visited the school premises on Saturday. Earlier, Socialist Unity Centre of India – Communist (SUCI-C) affiliated All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had expressed opposition to the move as well.
“They have put up government schools for sale. We have constructed and developed the schools, and they are selling them. Congress has built numerous such properties. Instead of developing such properties, the BJP government is selling them,” Shivakumar said. “I want to ask the (State) government to reclaim the pride of our properties,” he added.
The KPCC president said that it was necessary for him to have a look at the school in person. “In one prominent newspaper, it appeared on the front page that this school has been put up for sale. As an opposition party, we thought it was our responsibility to come down here and have a look at the government-owned building. Several such instances have come to light (sale of government properties). “There are several issues. I need to take a good look at the documents to get all the relevant information. After this, we will all sit and have a discussion on this and strategise on how to protect government-owned properties,” Shivakumar said
