Bengaluru: Bengaluru police arrested a woman and three of her associates on charges of threatening an industrialist’s son and trying to extort Rs 4 crore from him on August 24.
Byatarayanapura police, who took up the investigation, arrested Pushpalatha, 30, and her associates, identified as Arjun, Rakesh, and Santosh.
The police said that the gang led by the woman trapped Suraj by assuring him that she would get a government tender for him. Pushpa met Suraj multiple times and then introduced him to Santosh, whom she claimed was the personal secretary of an IAS officer.
When Suraj was talking to Puspa one day, the other accused barged inside the room and told him that he would be released only after the payment of Rs 4 crore.
Suraj was then taken to Pushpa’s residence, where she threatened him that if he did not give the money, she would lodge a rape case against him.
Suraj was released only after he paid Rs 25 lakh to the gang. Pushpa also warned the victim that if he revealed anything about her, she would get his whole family killed. Due to the trauma, Suraj did not reveal the incident to anyone for a few days. However, later he approached the police and filed a complaint against the accused.
Based on the complaint, Byatarayanapura police nabbed the gang and recovered Rs 20 lakh and an air pistol from them. A probe has been launched to track down another two absconding accomplices, police said.
