Bengaluru:

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) staged a protest against the lack of provision to take up government recruitment exams in regional languages on Thursday at Freedom Park in the city.

After the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) notified that the Combined Graduate Level Examination–2022 to fill up 20,000 vacancies in various union government departments will be conducted only in the languages English and Hindi, Kannada activists and local aspirants have been upset about the decision.

Activists say that the exams being conducted in English and Hindi put local aspirants at a disadvantage, as a significant population study in Kannada medium schools until Class 10. The option of Hindi also allows native Hindi speakers from outside the state to find jobs in Karnataka, causing a stir in the employment prospects of locals.

Many referred to the recent report of recruitment for the Gramin Banking Service in Karnataka, where out of 18,000 personnel recruited, only 1,060 were people belonging to the state, to support their argument. “The local aspirants having to write the recruitment exams in English has put them under grave pressure and they are not able to acquire deserving seats,” KRV said in a statement and demanded the central government to conduct exams in all regional languages.
