Bengaluru: A massive protest by the Welfare Party of India (WPI) concluding their national campaign 'Desh Bhar Me Bada Bawal, Rozi Roti ka hai sawal,' took place at the Freedom Park in the city on Monday. The WPI had started the campaign against rising inflation and unemployment on October 15 throughout the country.

As a part of the campaign, a 'People's Awareness Caravan' had been inaugurated at Kalaburagi, which later travelled to many districts of Karnataka and concluded at Mangaluru on October 22. Similarly, walkathons and bike rallies were also conducted along with the students and the women's wing of the WPI.

The campaign was supported and well-received by the people from all walks of life. The WPI state president, Advocate Taher Hussain, said that during a door-to-door campaign conducted in various districts, it was found that many residents especially from the backward class and the minority did not have BPL cards for ration.

"The government boasts it has provided nine crore people with cooking gas connection, but the ground reality is far from what the ministers have been claiming. The people don't even know about the government schemes," he said.

The WPI activists demanded an increase in the wages for the MGNREGA labourers and to abolish GST on essential goods. They also demanded the government to provide jobs for the unemployed youths in the state. WPI State President Advocate Taher Hussain, State Gen Secretary Habibullah Khan, State Women's Wing president Talat Yasmeen addressed the event in the city on Monday
