‘Real-life Narcos hunt’: Drugs worth Rs 1.9 cr seized, 11 held

Bengaluru: In a joint operation, police officers from Ashok Nagar and Cubbon Park police stations busted a drug racket by arresting eleven accused including foriegn nationals, who were systematically supplying drugs in the city.

Following the investigations, the police claimed to have seized drugs worth Rs 1.9 crore from their possession. The police said that among the 11 people, five were those who had landed in the city from Sudan, Yemen and Nigeria, carrying a student or employment visa.

It was also revealed that the people were illegally overstaying their visas and were involved in an organised drug peddling network. The police further said that the accused persons used to import narcotics from foreign countries and supplied them to drug addicts in the city.

Based on the information procured by one of the drug users in connection with the case, police teams from Ashok Nagar and Cubbon Park subdivision nabbed the accused from various places, including Kerala and Mumbai, where they had been allegedly hiding.

Narcotics, including 1.10 kg of MDMA and 2 kg of cannabis were seized by the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru Central, R Srinivas Gowda took to Twitter and dubbed the operation as ‘Real-life Narcos hunt,’ following which the Director General & Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP) Praveen Sood lauded the efforts of the police and said, “Excellent catch.

War against drugs continues.” Karnataka Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Alok Kumar said that ‘Operation Narcos’ in the state will help curb the usage of drugs. “Such operations will continue to keep check on activities like drug peddling and human trafficking,” he said.
