Book on 100 Muslim Women of Karnataka Launched

Bengaluru: An e-book titled “Rising Beyond the Ceiling” (RBTC) profiling 100 prominent Muslim women of Karnataka was launched in a function at the Hasanath College for Women on November 1, coinciding with the Karnataka Rajyotsava.

The book has been edited by Dr. Farha Usmani, an international health and development expert based in New York. Prominent women profiled in the book include Kannada writer Sarah Aboobakar, Taizyun Oomer of Humane Touch, Prof. Sabiha Zubair, Prof. Hasanat Mansoor, Urdu poet Shaista Yousuf, Rakshanda Nawab, Deputy Commissioner of Police Najma Farooqi etc.

RBTC coordinator Zoya Fatehally said RBTC is a global initiative to shine a spotlight on the achievements of Muslim women of India and contribute towards changing their stereotypical narrative. Prof. Sabiha Zubair, speaking on the occasion, said the book covers the achievements and experiences of the women who faced trials during their career to break the glass ceiling and succeeded in life and career.

The book is the third in the series profiling the accomplishments of Muslim women in India. The earlier two pertained to Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. It is available on Amazon and is priced at Rs. 99. The hard copy will be published shortly, the organisers said.
