PSI scam: 13 accused wrote the same wrong answers for 11 questions

Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) recruitment scam in Karnataka has brought out that 13 aspirants who appeared for the examination in various centres wrote 11 wrong answers for the same set of questions. By this, the department has come to the conclusion that the answers were received from a single source, the charge sheet said.

On Monday, the CID submitted a charge sheet in a case registered at Ashoknagar police station in Kalaburagi town. It has been named Bhagavanth Raya Jogur, Rudragouda Patil, Ravutappa and Kashinath.

R D Patil is said to be the kingpin of the scam, while Ravutappa worked as a middleman and Kashinatth w a s t h e headmaster of one of the centres – Jnana Jyothi English Medium School. Jogur who secured the first rank in the Kalyana Karnataka region by securing 167.375 marks, made a deal with Patil and agreed to pay Rs 40 lakh, and also made an advance payment of Rs 10 lakh.

He received Bluetooth devices from another accused and was provided with answers through calls. 12 other aspirants have also ticked the same 11 wrong answers as Jogur, even though all of them appeared from different examination centers.

The CID officials have added that five more aspirants who appeared for the exam from Sri Sharanabasaveshwara College of Commerce are under the scanner as their wrong answers also match. For 545 posts of police sub-inspector, the examination was held on October 3, and close to 54,041 students appeared.

The matter of a scam was brought to light after the OMR sheet of the accused surfaced. Ranking seventh in the Kalyana Karnataka region, the accused Veeresh N was found to have answered only 21 questions out of the total 100 in an objective paper for 150 marks. Yet, he had obtained 121 marks.
