Bengaluru: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has denied reports that appeared in a section of electronic media that it was installing CCTV cameras in scrapped buses.

In a statement the corporation said, “The reported news is totally far from the truth and is misleading the viewers with imagination, which is a matter of tarnishing the image of the BMTC.” It added that a complaint has been filed in the regard.

“Under Nirbhaya Yojana, the corporation is installing ITS devices (vehicle tracking, recorder, CC cameras and panic button) in 5,000 vehicles. ITS devices are planned to be installed in all BS-IV, BS-VI buses, Sarathi vehicles, mobile workshops, wreckers, store trucks and the remaining vehicles are accommodated by utilising the younger fleet of BS-III buses.

The ITS devices installed or already installed in the buses are mechanically and operationally sound and continuously in service on the route,” the statement read. “None of the scrapped buses are operational and none of the scrapped buses are fitted with ITS devices.

Further, 90 per cent of the devices have been installed in BS-IV, BS-VI, type buses,” BMTC PRO said.
