Bengaluru: Journalist Aayush Puthran launched his book Unveiling Jazbaa at Blossoms Book House on Church street on Sunday at 7 pm. The launch covered the impactful journey of the Pakistani Women's Cricket team and their various forms of struggles on the way to success and recognition.
The panel included journalist and author Suresh Menon who also spoke about his new book ‘Why don’t you write something I might read?’ alongside Sharda Ugra, the author of the famous books Yuvraj Singh: Test of my life', Rahul Dravid: Timeless Steel’.
The panel discussion shed light on the struggles of the Pakistani women's team, inclusive politics, personal battles, triumphs against odds, friendships, and rivalries of favours and revenge. The event saw active participation from cricket enthusiasts and readers, who voiced their many questions about the interesting and unique lives of the Pakistani cricketers alongside many old cricket controversies and stories.
“Many of the women saw foreigners in tournaments and would go and start clicking pictures due to the lack of exposure in their home country. This also made me understand that women players hailing from Pakistan and India have a very different set of environment and that is why it is overwhelming for both parties,” said Aayush Putharan.
He also added that, “These women have gone through stressful times in terms of convincing their conservative families, have battled sexual harassment and many societal stigmas to get where they are today and want to be recognized by the media and the world just like their male counterparts.”
The book was made available in the UK four months ago and is available to buy in India at nearby bookstores and online platforms.
