Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar on Monday chose Children’s Day to raise concerns about the state of government schools under the BJP-led state government.
He released a video citing Right To Information (RTI) data which disclosed an insufficient number of teachers in government schools, crumbling buildings, apart from other challenges. “Children’s Day is being celebrated with enthusiasm all over the country.
However, the bad state in which we find government schools is having an adverse effect on children,” he said. He cited data from the UDISE which showed that the number of children getting enrolled in schools is increasing while the number of teachers had stagnated.
Government data showed that there were 76,450 schools in the state. However, the number of teachers in the government schools had dropped from 2.08 lakh in 2019-20 to 1.98 lakh in 2020-21, Shivakumar said
