Bengaluru:

The year was 1947 - the year of the Partition. Among those migrating across the border from Pakistan to India, was a young man JK Kapur, making his way from Lahore to a newly-independent India. At the time, little did anyone know that the memories this young man carried across the border with him would lead him to the start of a 50-year strong legacy – of the now legendary Copper Chimney.

As a refugee, leaving his home behind, young Kapur could carry little with him but a few essentials & memories of the flavours he grew up with. For 25 years, Kapur held these fond memories of his years growing up close, keeping them intact and undimmed in his heart and mind.

In 1972, Kapur put together a team with whom he shared the secret recipes that he had been meticulously perfecting in his home kitchen, recreating the food inspired from his roots down to every detail over the past 25 years.

These Chefs whom he trained to be Masters called Ustads, internalized the secrets and mastered the art of no compromises when it came to ingredients, cooking techniques and flavours inspired by the dishes of an undivided India, from Peshawar to Delhi. The first Copper Chimney was inaugurated by the legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

It was the first restaurant in India to have a show kitchen where the diners could watch the iconic roomali rotis being tossed in the air by the Ustads. The restaurant in the 70s was helmed by Chef Tari, the first female Chef in an era where female chefs were unheard of. She dished out some of the most memorable tandoori rotis to guests.

Copper Chimney introduced dishes to India such as the legendary Burrah Chops from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, the Iranian-inspired Chelo Kabab and the Smoked White Pepper Chicken Chop delicately flavoured with Baluchi spices. Copper Chimney’s unique version of the black dal, based on JK Kapur’s mother’s signature recipe was introduced and is known as the Dal Maharaja.

Many of Copper Chimney’s unique dishes from 1972 have been loved and enjoyed by the likes of Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and other legendary actors, who have patronized Copper Chimney over the years. Today, Copper Chimney is considered a signpost in the nation’s Indian culinary landscape and an iconic brand that has carved a household name over the last 50 years serving four generations of diners, from Bollywood celebrities to India’s most prominent families.

To pay tribute to its founder, Copper Chimney is launching a limited edition Autograph Menu featuring new dishes made with his secret recipes alongside the brand's best-seller classics over the past 5 decades. Every day for dinner, the first 50 walk-in guests would receive a 50% discount on their entire meal, throughout the entire month of November.
