Art show by Namita Kulkarni at BLR creative circus
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Namita Kulkarni is an artist, writer, and yoga teacher. She’s been painting since childhood and teaching yoga for the last 13 years.
BLR Creative Circus will be presenting an exhibition of paintings that were made as a result of a grant from ICAAD (International Center for Advocates Against Discrimination), a human rights advocacy center in New York.
“The idea is to make explicit the link between colonialism and the climate crisis. Often framed as simply a matter of reducing carbon emissions, the climate crisis is a result of colonialism, both historical and ongoing. The domination-based, extractive, consumption-centered way of life that is disconnected from any sense of wonder and humility before the infinite workings of the planet.” says Namita whose paintings explore colonial dimensions and the gravity of the climate crisis.
The series also explores how indigenous wisdom from various cultures can bring us closer to our role as custodial species on the planet, with a sense of belonging instead of domination.
