Bengaluru: Rains continued to drench Bengaluru streets on Sunday due to the influence of the remnants of Cyclone Mandous, even as more light showers are forecast for the city. India Meteorological Department (IMD) disclosed that 11.8 mm of rain was recorded in the city limits on Sunday as of 5.30 pm.
The maximum temperature for the city was 21.6 degree Celsius, while the mercury dipped as low as 17.8 degrees, which isn’t as low as temperatures in the past. Other parts of greater Bengaluru also received light showers. IMD scientist A Prasad said that one can expect cloudy skies and light rain in Bengaluru on Monday.
“Tomorrow, skies are likely to be cloudy as well. Light to moderate rains are possible,” he said. “In the morning, areas such as the international airport, HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) airport and Yelahanka may receive rain,” he added.
IMD forecasts added that “light rain was very likely” on Tuesday as well. Downgraded to low pressure area Meanwhile, Mandous lost intensity further and became a low pressure area as of noon on Sunday. The IMD added that it is likely to influence the development of weather systems in the Arabian Sea.
“Special from IMD issued at 12.01 hours IST of 11 Dec 2022: The low pressure area (remnant of the cyclonic storm Mandous pronounced as Man-Dous) over north interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining south interior Karnataka and north Kerala has become less marked.
However, the associated upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the same region and extends up to the middle tropospheric level. It is likely to emerge into the southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea off north Kerala and Karnataka coasts by December 12.
Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the same region around Dec 13, 2022. It will move west-northwestwards away from the India coast gradually thereafter:” an IMD statement forecast.
“Under its influence, squally wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is likely to prevail over southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea, along and off Kerala and Karnataka coasts during December 11-12 and over east central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during Dec 13-15.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea, along and off Kerala and Karnataka coasts during Dec 11-12 and southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea during Dec13-15, 2022,” it added.
