Tumakuru: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s car was stopped by an aggrieved farmer, while the former was traveling as a part of his party’s Pancha Ratna Yatra programme in Tumakuru district on Friday.

Kumaraswamy conversed with the farmer and came to know that the latter is aggrieved because his cattle had not been vaccinated against lumpy skin disease, by the authorities. The incident took place near Hanumapura village in Kunigal taluka.

“A young farmer, Girish blocked my car along with his cattle and protested and expressed anger near Hanumapura village in Kunigal taluka, complaining that his sick cattle were not getting the necessary vaccines and medicines from the state government,” Kumaraswamy said.

“The BJP government only pays lip service to the cow and they do not serve the cow. They haven’t been providing vaccination and treatment”, Kumaraswamy added. Pancha Ratna Yatra is a prelude to the ensuing assembly elections where the JD(S) leader is meeting people to express his party’s commitment to providing free education, health, housing, employment, and farmers’ welfare if they are voted to power.

Garland sets record On Thursday night, Kumaraswamy stayed in Yellapur village in Tumakuru rural assembly constituency where adjudicators Mohit Kumar Vats from the Asia Book of Records and Harish R from India Book of Records met the former chief minister and handed over the certificates and medals acknowledging the record for the heaviest garland weighing hundreds of kilos.

The garland was symbolically put around Kumaraswamy through a crane. “I am happy that the garlands prepared by the people to welcome me have entered the records in the Asia Book and the India Book of Records,” Kumaraswamy said.

The garlands had been made up of apples, cucumber, coconut, sugarcane, coins, wooden ploughs, JDS symbol, rakhis specially made by women, vegetables, and LED lights among other items.

Tumakuru Rural JD(S) MLA Gauri Shankar, MLC Bhoje Gowda and Tumakuru district JDS president Anjinappa were present among others, with Kumaraswamy
