Man arrested for blackmailing resident

Bengaluru: On the pretext of making an urgent call, a person allegedly ran away with a mobile phone from a resident of Yeshwanthpur.

Later, the accused started blackmailing the resident to pay him Rs 1 lakh. The police identified the accused as Pavan. The incident occurred when the victim, Dev Vrat, stood near a tea shop behind Ramaiah Hospital.

The accused approached him and requested him to lend him his phone to make an urgent call. The accused noticed the lock pattern when the victim unlocked his phone before handing him over to the accused. However, as soon as he got the phone, the accused fled the spot on his bike.

Later, the victim and his family started getting calls from Pavan, who demanded Rs 1 lakh and threatened to share their morphed photos and videos on social media if they failed to pay him. The victim approached the police and filed a complaint against the accused, following which he was nabbed.
