Lighting during New Year costs dearly for BBMP!

Bengaluru: From twinkling lights to the sounds of favourite tracks, New Year in Bengaluru was a sight for sore eyes, especially after the two Covid-induced tumultuous years.
For the people in Bengaluru, who might have paid hefty amounts for food and drinks while celebrating the beginning of a New Year, anybody might rarely have wondered how much that colourful lighting and display at the city’s key junctions might have added to the electricity bill for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
For the illumination of the streets mainly at Brigade Road, MG Road, Koramangala and Indiranagar with colourful spotlights and high beams during the celebration, the BBMP has received a whooping Rs 25 lakh bill from the concerned department, sources close to BBMP officials told News Trail.
While this may not seem like a massive amount for the BBMP, several residents and activists in the city have expressed concern over the issue, stating that there were other ways which could have been opted for by the civic agencies to reduce the expenses.
