Body-worn cameras mandatory for patrolling: DCP

Bengaluru: City police on patrolling duty have been asked to use bodyworn cameras to record any verbal altercation between them and the public, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-East Division, CK Baba, said in a notification on Sunday. The DCP made body-worn cameras mandatory for the cops, especially on the night patrolling duty.
"Fifty cameras have already been obtained from the department and are being used as per the need. The entire duty period of the staff will be recorded on the camera, which has a continuous video recording facility for approximately 10 hours", said the DCP.
"With the help of these cameras, we will have a proper report of any incident. While restricting the police from misusing their power and taking bribes, the cameras will also help detect false allegations on the personnel," he added.
Earlier the state government had distributed similar cameras to the city traffic police amid various allegations of bribery and corruption against the cops. The move attracted huge appreciation from the residents.
