Bengaluru: A group of 'Kannada' activists on Thursday ransacked the Namma Metro office in Shanthinagar here in protest against the death of a mother-son duo on Outer Ring Road (ORR) after an under-construction metro pier fell on them.
The videos of the protest and the unruly behaviour of the crowd soon went viral on social media. In one of the videos, an activist could be heard saying, “There are certain protocols that need to be followed when a tender is issued. While these matters happen among the higher authorities, only on paper, in reality none of it is ever followed.”
The angry activists also pointed to the formation of a sinkhole near Shoolay circle. The spot is close to the place where Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is digging a tunnel for extending the metro network in the city.
The protesters urged DMRC Managing Director Anjum Parvez to keep a constant vigil on the work being carried out by contractors at various construction sites of the metro project in order to avoid such mishaps in future and fixing responsibility for the same.
