Kalaburagi: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday talked about the chances of JD(S) in north Karnataka, in the upcoming assembly elections, setting a lofty goal of bagging 35 seats in the region. He spoke in the Sedam taluka in Kalaburagi district during the party’s Pancharatna Rath Yatra.

Political observers, however, are less than optimistic about JD(S)’ prospects in the region since it is a party that is mostly confined to its stronghold of the old Mysuru region. Kumaraswamy added that the yatra would continue until March 20.

The Pancha Ratna refers to the five election promises of the JD(S); free education, free health care, free housing, addressing of farmers' issues, and guaranteed employment for at least one member of the household. The party plans on covering some 120 Assembly constituencies under the programme. Elections are due in May next year.
