
BTP to hold painting competition for road-safety awareness

Bengaluru: In its bid to reduce traffic congestion and ensure greater safety on roads through various measures, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has taken up 'Road Safety Through Painting' initiative to further raise awareness among the city residents about the issue. According to BTP, about 750 people lose their lives and 5000 are injured every year due to road accidents in the city.
The objective of the innovative painting competition is to promote road safety and to make the participants delve into topics such as drunken driving, use of mobile phones while riding or driving, driving without seatbelts and helmets, which often result in accidents. The competition is scheduled to take place at Police Traffic Park, St Marks Road on Wednesday, January 18 from 10 am to 12 pm.
The BTP in a circular stated that a team of renowned artists would be judging the painting competition and the best performance would be awarded suitably. All the participants shall be given a participating certificate, the circular read. About the rules of competition, the BTP said the competition would be held in three sections:
Primary and Secondary School children section, High school children section and public participation section. In each section there are three prizes which will be presented to the winners on January 21 during the closing ceremony of the Road Safety week function. The duration of the painting competition is 2 hours. Anything related to Road Safety can be painted in the competition.
Only the drawing sheet will be provided by Bengaluru Traffic Police. All other equipment required for painting should be brought by the participants by themselves. All the citizens, irrespective of age can participate and can draw pictures or create paintings on road safety at the spot, the BTP further stated
