‘Dance is truly the hidden language of the soul’

Bengaluru: A fruition of 10 years of hard work, Bharatanatyam dancer Divya Vijayalakshmi Dharmarajan, a city-based 9th-grade student will give her first-ever solo performance - ‘Arangetram’ here at the JSS Auditorium on January 22.

Bharatanatyam ‘Arangetram’ which expands to a deeper meaning, ‘Ascent to the stage’ is one of the most auspicious and rewarding moments for a dancer. “I am thrilled and nervous about the occasion,” Divya said.

”Dance is truly the hidden language of the soul. I remember how I started, it was a blur but now over the course of 10 years, I have immersed myself heavily into it,” the young danseuse told News Trail during a 'tête-a-tête'. As tradition suggests, Arangetram marks a dancer’s graduation as a performer on stage.

Every passionate dancer trains hard to make it to their firstever solo performance on the stage. Divya Vijayalakshmi Dharmarajan will be performing her solo performance on 22 January, Sunday, 2023, at JSS Auditorium from 6 pm onwards.

The 15-year-old dancer is a student of Auro Mirra International School. She is a twist and embodiment between various forms of art. Apart from her passion for dancing, she also enjoys indulging in sketching and music. Divya also spoke about her exposure to old mythological folklore alongside honing her skills as a Bharatanatyam dancer for the last 10 years.

“I have immersed myself heavily into Bharatanatyam. I have been exposed to old mythological folklore which has helped me get closer to art and the intellect it gave me,” she said.
