Historian Rudrangshu Mukerjee to speak at BIC discussion on 'Making of Modern India'

Bengaluru: The ex-vice chancellor and professor of history at Ashoka University, Rudrangshu Mukerjee, will dwell on India’s journey since Independence 75 years ago and the bonding that Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore shared.
Professor Rudrangshu Mukerjee will speak on the issue of ‘Tagore and Gandhi in the Making of Modern India’ at a BIC discussion to be held at Bangalore International Center, Domlur, on 19 January 2023 from 6.30 pm onwards. The ‘Tagore and Gandhi in the Making of Modern India’ is a narrative down the history lane.
In the discussion with Rudrangshu Mukerjee, will dwell on India’s 75 years of Independence and recall the significant bond that Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Tagore shared. He has earlier broadly spoken about Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Tagore’s relationship, their disagreements, and ideologies that helped build an India that is free from hatred and bigotry.
Prof Rudrangshu Mukerjee completed his primary education at Calcutta Boys School, then went to Presidency College in Calcutta before he entered JNU and St Edmunds Hall, Oxford. He was conferred the D Phil in Modern History award by the University of Oxford. He further had a fulfilling career as he taught history in the United States in prominent colleges.
He was the Editor of The Telegraph for over two decades. Professor Mukerjee has penned several books including Nehru and Bose: Parallel Lives, Awadg in Revolt 1857-58: A Study of Popular Resistance, Spectre of Violence: The Massacres in Kanpur in 1857, The year of Blood: Essays on 1857, Dateline 1857:: Revolt against the Raj. His recent works include 'Tagore and Gandhi: Walking Alone, Walking Together and Twilight Falls on Liberalism'.
