Bengaluru: Lately the city has been witnessing a series of brutal killings caused by unrequited love. These heinous crimes are sending shock waves among residents and also pose a challenge to the police. On Tuesday, Bengaluru police were alerted about a horrific incident after a 19-year old girl was found dead with her throat slit open in Dibbur, on the outskirts of the city.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was allegedly killed by her male friend, Madhu Chandra, who fled from the spot on a bike. Taking the matter seriously, the cops intensified the search for him. Sources from Rajanukunte police station told News Trail that the deceased girl, identified as Rashi, was staying with her sister Rakshita, her mother Sushilamma, and grandmother.
Rashi's mother and grandmother used to work on farmland taken on lease by Chandra. Rashi was a first-year BA student studying at the Government First Grade College in Yelahanka, sources added. A senior police officer said that the accused, reportedly a native of Andhra Pradesh, was staying on the outskirts of Bengaluru after taking the farmland on lease from local farmers.
According to the family members of the deceased who have filed a case with the police, Chandra had befriended Rashi but later began pestering her to marry him, despite the fact that he himself was already married and even had a child. On Tuesday after Rashi returned from college, Sushilamma allegedly asked her to bring back the cows that were grazing in the fields.
However when Rashi did not return for a long time, she went outside and saw Chandra attacking her daughter with a knife. Raising an alarm, Sushilamma called out to her grandmother and ran towards her daughter. She alleged that by then, the miscreant had already slit her throat and a profusely bleeding Rashi ran for a short distance before falling dead to the ground.
Chandra allegedly fled from the spot with his accomplice on a bike. The police rushed to the spot, inspected the body before shifting it to Yelahanka Government hospital for a post mortem. The body was later handed over to the family members.
Speaking to News Trail, Rashi's sister, Rakshita, alleged that the accused had been troubling her family to get Rashi married to him. "Our father died years ago and we both were brought up by our mother. We were in fear to even approach the police seeking help from his harassment," she said.
The police, after an intense search, nabbed the accused and his accomplice. Based on the complaint filed by the family, a murder case has been registered against Chandra. Further investigation is underway
