BMTC bus runs over 31-year-old scooterist

Bengaluru: A 31-year-old scooterist died after being knocked down by a speeding Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus near Sumanahalli junction in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kuldeep Bagrecha, 31, a resident of Vijayanagar in Bengaluru. According to Kamakshipalya traffic police, the incident took place when Bagrecha was riding his scooter near Sumanahalli flyover around 12.30 pm. A BMTC bus allegedly driven in a negligent manner, hit the scooter from behind throwing Bagrecha off his vehicle.

Before the bus driver could apply the brakes, the bus had already run over Bagrecha's arm leaving him severely injured. Residents and motorists cornered the bus driver. In the meanwhile, as Bagrecha was being taken to a hospital, he succumbed to injuries sustained in the mishap. Jurisdictional traffic police rushed to the spot and apprehended the bus driver.

Later in the day, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, West Division, Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, confirmed that the bus had run over the two-wheeler rider leading to his death. "The driver has been booked and action will be taken against him," the DCP assured.
